Capture offer biomass boilers which will run on any of the following fuel sources, if you have something unusual, give us a call and we’ll see what we can do!
Wood pellet is formed from untreated waste wood such as sawdust from joinery factories and sawmills, or energy crops such as miscanthus or willow. It is the most energy dense and uniform type of biomass with calorific values of around 4.8kWh/kg, usually 6mm or 8mm with a moisture content of less than 10%. Pellet is a highly controllable fuel source, allowing high degrees of automation. It is possible to receive blown deliveries of pellet, in much the same way as tankers deliver heating oil. In July 2008, pellet was 40% cheaper than heating oil, following the dip in oil prices they are now roughly the same.
Woodchip can be formed from agricultural and forestry waste. It is a highly cost effective source of fuel, but it is important to ensure that size and moisture content are suitable for a particular woodchip boiler. High quality woodchip is available commercially at around 75% of the cost of mains gas, so in the right situation, wood chip boilers can offer an extremely rapid return on capital investment.
Logs, perhaps the best known source of biomass can be virtually free if you have your own supply.
Cereals can be highly cost effective especially for farmers! Barley, maize, wheat & oats are all suitable in the right boiler.
