is a ground or air source heat pump best for me
Is a ground source, or air source heat pump best for me?
for advice on which heat pump to choose call 01209716861

There are several factors to consider when deciding whether to go for a ground or air source heat pump.

Over the course of 12 months a ground source heat pump will be slightly cheaper to run, because the energy source (the ground) remains at a stable temperature, whereas the air temperature varies throughout the year and when itís colder, the air source heat pump will have to work harder to provide output at the same temperature.

Because a ground source heat pump is not exposed to the elements, like an air source heat pump is, design life of a GSHP is expected to be over 25 years, compared to 10-15 years for an ASHP.

No planning permission is required for a ground source heat pump, whereas it is for an air source heat pump as occasionally, the noise from the fan might be an issue. Installation cost of an air source heat pump is considerably less than that of a ground source heat pump as no ground works are required. Sometimes the cost of ground works double the capital cost of installation, especially in situations where space is limited and boreholes are required.
