Ground Source
Ground source heat pumps are an ideal way to heat well insulated buildings where mains gas is not available.
We install Kensa and Dimplex Ground Source Heat Pumps for
the following applications:
- Heating only
- Heating & Hot Water
- Heating & cooling (commercial applications)
A full range of single-phase domestic heat pumps from
4kW – 24kW are available. Three-phase commercial heat pumps are available designed to your requirements.
Heat pumps are most efficient when connected to a correctly designed underfloor heating system; however we have a range of high temperature heat pumps which are designed for use with radiators.
In order to correctly size a heat pump we require a full copy of your properties SAP report. If you do not have a SAP report available we can arrange for one to be carried out.
Ground Array Options
Energy can be collected from the ground by using either
- Slinkies
- Boreholes
Slinkies
Slinkies are coils of pipe buried in trenches laid either horizontally or vertically. Roughly 10m of trench is required per kW of heat pump output. Trenches are spaced a minimum of 5m apart.
The slinky option is the preferred option if sufficient land area is available.
Boreholes
Where space does not allow for slinkies to be installed, boreholes are used.
Boreholes are drilled, typically between 50m and 100m deep. As a rule of thumb, a borehole approximately 75m deep is suitable for a 4kW heat pump in Cornwall.
We can carry out the installation of ground works options as part of our scope of works.
In commercial situations, a full thermal conductivity report and specific site design is required to ensure correct sizing of the ground array. Capture Energy can carry out thermal conductivity tests in commercial situations.
