Wind Turbine Feed in Tariffs
The Feed in Tariff Scheme provides a generous guaranteed payment for electricity generated from a wind turbine. It is a government scheme with payments made to you by your energy supplier.
The rates paid vary depending on the rated capacity of the turbine installed.
| Tariff Band (kW Capacity) | Tariff from 1st December 2012 (new installations) |
|---|---|
| 1.5 – 15kW | 21p/kWh |
| 15 -100kW | 21pkWh |
| 100 – 500kW | 17.5p/kWh |
Benefits of the Feed in Tariff Scheme
- The Feed in Tariff is paid on every unit you generate (even if you use the electricity!)
- Linked to inflation
- 20 year payment scheme
- Tax free income for domestic customers
In addition to the Feed in Tariff payments you are also paid for energy you export to the grid. For turbines under 30kW your energy company will normally estimate that 50% of the energy produced is exported. For turbines over 30kW an export meter is required and you are paid on exactly what you export.
Export rates vary and we would advise you to research the market on an annual basis to ensure you are being paid a good market rate for your export. The government have set a guaranteed minimum export rate of 4.5p/kWh. Turbines over 50kW in scale can usually negotiate a higher export rate.
Registering for FIT’s
We help all our clients with FIT registration to make this process as easy as possible.
Installations under 50kW
We will provide you with an MCS (Microgeneration Certification Scheme) certificate one the installation has been completed. This is returned to your energy supplier along with their completed FIT application form. We will help you complete this form at the commissioning stage.
Installations over 50kW
In the 2 months prior to your installation you will need to create a ‘generator’ account with Ofgem. This is a process done online. You will be provided with a user name and password. You will then need to add Capture Energy as an additional user to allow us to complete the technical parts of the application. You will then need to review this information, complete the declarations and submit the application.
Our service
Upon completion of your wind turbine we can help complete your Feed in Tariff application forms or Ofgem ROO-FIT accreditation. Your electricity supplier will then pay you, generally every three months by direct debit.
